Clearing your browser's cache
Modern browsers maintain a collection (or cache) or apps and data related to websites you visit. Sometimes, newer versions of websites will not work properly because your browser is still using older components. To start fresh, you need to clear the cache manually. You can't do any damage to your system by clearing your browser cache and it will often resolve errors and issues. If you have been asked to clear your cache by a support representative or if you are troubleshooting on your own, these are the steps depending on which browser you have.
Google Chrome
- Launch the Google Chrome browser
- Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
- Select History.
- Select Clear browsing data.
- In the dialog that appears, select the checkboxes for “Cached images and files” and “Hosted app data.”
- Use the menu at the top to select beginning of time.
- Click Clear browsing data.
- Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar and choose Exit.
- After Chrome has closed, launch Chrome again.
Firefox
- Launch the Firefox browser
- Click the Firefox menu on the browser toolbar.
- Select History.
- Select Clear Recent History.
- In the dialog that appears, select the checkbox for “Cache.”
- Use the menu at the top to select Everything.
- Click Clear Now.
- Close the browse.
- After Firefox has closed, launch Firefox again.
Internet Explorer
- Launch Internet Explorer
- Click the gear icon in the browser toolbar.
- Select Safety.
- Select Delete browsing history....
- In the dialog that appears, select the checkboxes for "Preserve Favorite website data" and “Temporary Internet files.”
- Click Delete.
- Close the browse.
- After Internet Explorer has closed, launch it again.
Safari
- Launch Safari.
- Select Safari in the upper-left corner of the main menu bar, and select the Preferences option near the top of the drop-down menu.
- Select the Advanced tab located in the top navigation bar and check the box directly to the left of the Show Develop menu in menu bar option to add the menu to Safari by default.
- Select the Develop menu near the middle of the main Safari menu bar and select the Empty Caches option.
- Close the browse.
- After Safari has closed, launch it again.
